As a native of the west coast of British Columbia, Canada, Liz began the design of the Fallen Log to commemorate her appreciation for the beauty of the towering forests that line the province’s rugged coastline and mountain ranges.

Central to this piece is its log tunnel.  The tunnel itself started by carving down a commercial sono-tube. A sono-tube is made using a high density, pre-formed fiberboard casing imbedded with waxed paper laminations. This core makes the log tunnel exceptionally sturdy and water resistant.  The interior of the log is lined in low pile carpet for traction while the exterior was finished in painstakingly fitted pieces of natural bark and strips of cambium that we preserve during the debarking of our trees. A “sisal travelling path runs along the top of the log and is a favorite rest stop for kitties pedicure passions.

The Fallen Log boasts 4 large solid wood platforms.  Each one is stained on the underside and their topsides are finished in a silky-soft, variegated coffee toned, long ply carpet for maximum comfort and luxury.

With it’s multiple twisting branches weaving between the platforms, the Fallen Log pays homage to the fluid beauty of nature.   Front and center of these vertical limbs is one particular branch that arches up from behind the log, reminiscent of the breaching of the three native pods of orca whales (pods “J”, “K” and “L”), that are resident to the southwest coast of British Columbia.

Another unique feature of the Fallen Log are it’s horizontal sisal mats.  Located on the base and the first platform, these mats were hand laid in gentle curves and swirls meant to mimic the swirling creeks and eddy’s that meander through the dense forests of Vancouver Island.

The Fallen Log was finished in a semi-transparent, coffee colored stain. This stain provides a warm, roasted coffee bean finish, that blends effortlessly with any décor. (Note: all stains used on our trees are eco-friendly, and safe for pets and children).
